Professor Graham Wright is a chartered information systems practitioner with a clinical and managerial background. In 2017 he was elected as a founding member of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics. Academy Membership is one of the highest honours in the international field of biomedical and health informatics.
He moved to South Africa to take up the Chair of Health Sciences Research at Walter Sisulu University in 2009.
He is a National Research Foundation (NRF) C2 Rated researcher and has a number of research appointments Adjunct Professor in Health Informatics at Fort University from 2014, and Visiting Professor in the Department of Information Systems, Rhodes University from 2018.
He has been an active Fellow of the British Computer Society and held the offices of Chair and Treasurer for the British Computer Society Health Informatics Forum (BCS Health) and UK representative to the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). A former Chair of the IMIA Open Source Working Group and a Fellow of the IMIA NI. He is the HELINA representative to the IMIA task force on Education and former Chairman of the HELINA Education Working Group. He is a council member of the South African Health Informatics Association
He is an Associate Editor Applied Clinical Informatics was the Editor and assistant editor of Information Technology in Nursing (ITIN) and has been on the editorial boards of a number of Informatics Journals. He has been a regular reviewer for the past 20 years of International Journal of Medical Informatics. More recent reviews for Methods of Information in Medicine, South African Journal of Information Management and the South African Computer Journal.
